The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
A powerful and elegant shiraz exuding aromas of blueberry and violets with a long, silky palate carrying flavours of ripe plum and spice. Traditional winemaking techniques including gentle basket pressing and maturation in French oak enhance the inherent intensity and character of this wine.
Cape Mentelle Shiraz draws inspiration from the techniques and wines of the Northern Rhône Valley in France. The fruit is destemmed, berry sorted, cold soaked and traditionally fermented. Maturation in both large oak vats and small barriques is aimed at retaining the refined fruit, floral and spice characters of the variety.
One of the most elegant and stylish shiraz from Margaret River. Savoury, brambly notes on the nose with a splash of spices and black pepper. The palate is supported by fine tannins and fine-grained oak. It results in a smooth and silky finish with wonderful texture and mouth feel. Exceptional wine.
There’s a deep core of blueberries, blackberries, pepper and violets on display here, but, as ever, the theme is more about structure and longevity than immediate fruit appeal. Textural, firm, fine, gravelly tannins provide great mouthfeel around a core of sweet fruit presence. With impressive fruit profile, supportive milk choc oak and excellent length, this is another vintage for the cellar.
Deep but clear purple-crimson; the bouquet calmly announces its cool-grown origins, with fragrant, almost flowery, redfruits and spices; the medium-bodied palate is supple and smooth, building impressively on the finely structured finish thanks to exactly poised
Supported by a firm spine of dusty, al dente tannins, this balanced and elegant shiraz reflects the spiciness and savoury qualities it can develop in Margaret River. Leathery, charcuterie-like aromas of blackberries, dark plums, raspberries and cassis are backed by suggestions of briar and a whiff of dark pepper. The palate smoothes out with aeration, delivering intense flavours of black and blue fruits knit tightly with fine-grained smoky, cedary oak, finishing long a meaty. It doesn't quite have the focus of fruit for an even higher rating.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
