There's an artful elegance,
layered depth and precise focus
about Cape Mentelle's wine”
Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2015
The vibrant and aromatic blend produces a fresh, distinctive wine that accentuates the unique character of both varieties. Meticulous winemaking preserves the remarkable intensity of fruit flavour and provides the structure, weight and texture that characterise the Cape Mentelle style.
Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full flavoured distinctive white wine. The style accentuates the fresh fruit characters of both varieties with the added complexity and palate weight offered by a small portion of barrel fermentation.
A fresh, lively expression of this regional style with texture and balance. Its fragrant aromas of gooseberries, passionfruit and tropical fruits overlie nuances of cut grass. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, its pure, juicy palate has length, richness and a streamlined shape culminating in a fresh, focused and faintly mineral finish.
PICK OF THE YEAR
Beautifully precise and pristine, minerally wine, revealing an almost slaty character. The palate is austere and lingering with a refreshing tightness concealing plenty of powerful intensity.
It’s no surprise that one of the most impressive wines of the day hails from the great estate of Cape Mentelle. This wine delivers what so many others lack - both zesty, lively citrus fruit and at the same time juicy ripeness. It’s got everything you would want in Margaret River SBS - texture, balance, finesse and style. Bring it on!
Has excellent juicy vinosity on the mid-palate, flavours of lemon, gooseberry and grass all intermingling, the touch of barrel ferment barely visible; excellent balance and length for the short-term cellaring.
It has the usual attractive greenery of snowpeas and a touch of capsicum spice with lime, passionfruit and hints of pineapple fruit. In the mouth brisk and dry with the barest touch of creaminess. Refreshingly tart, beautifully balanced and presented with a long dry flinty finish ticking the last boxDownload all reviews for this vintage as PDF
