The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
An individual expression of the stunning fruit hand picked from the mature, low yielding vines of our original Wallcliffe Vineyard. This wine captures the unique synergy of site, vintage and varieties to create a layered and complex wine with defined varietal characters and exceptional vibrancy.
The Wallcliffe Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a tiny production from our original Wallcliffe Vineyard established in 1970 in Margaret River. The wine represents the vagaries of climate, individuality of site, the complementary characters of the two varieties and a restrained yet evocative winemaking approach. This wine will evolve to produce different characters and complexity over time and will benefit from medium term cellaring.
It is a marriage of fruit generosity and intensity with its long, elegant, layered palate. It is remarkable, too, for the relatively low alcohol that gives rise to this cornucopia of flavours.
Long, savoury and briny, this complex, nutty and mineral blend has a spicy perfume of dried flowers, lychees, gooseberries and fresh, lightly toasted vanilla oak with undertones and nuances of sherbet and wet stones. It’s smooth, round and finely focussed, with excellent length, shape and freshness. Very classy indeed. Palate and flinty acid comes through at the finish.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
