Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full flavoured distinctive white wine. The style accentuates the fresh fruit characters of both varieties with the added complexity and palate weight offered by a small portion of barrel fermentation.
Bright quartz-green; this is the unwooded version of Cape Mentelle’s sauvignon blanc semillon, but show the fruit intensity and complexity that allows the (oaked) Wallcliffe version to succeed so well. Here there is a panoply of aromas and flavours spanning citrus/grapefruit, stone fruit and tropical fruits (whatever you care to mention) sustained by lovely natural acidity.
An exemplary Margaret River white blend with exceptional line of flavour and mouthfeel. Punchy aromas of gooseberries, passionfruit, cassis and lime juice backed bu suggestions of minerals, chalk and a light grassiness precede a long, evenly paces and juicy palate whose vibrant fruit is underpinned by a talc-like texture. It finishes with freshness, persistence and a tangy acidity.
With all the focus on Cape Mentelle’s big guns, it’s easy to overlook how good they are with this standard Margaret River fare. This is beautiful. It’s precise, fresh and crisp with a fine lingering palate packed with flavour intensity.
Brialliantly crafted blend from an estate now perched on a very high branch of the lofty MR tree. Fruit from the cooler south of the region and a touch of barrel infuse remarkable restraint and calm, effortless, gliding persistence.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
