The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
An individual expression of the stunning fruit hand picked from the mature, low yielding vines of our original Wallcliffe Vineyard. This wine captures the unique synergy of site, vintage and varieties to create a layered and complex wine with defined varietal characters and exceptional vibrancy.
The Wallcliffe Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a tiny production from our original Wallcliffe Vineyard established in 1970 in Margaret River. The wine represents the vagaries of climate, individuality of site, the complementary characters of the two varieties and a restrained yet evocative winemaking approach. This wine will evolve to produce different characters and complexity over time and will benefit from medium term cellaring.
Very complex, but supremely elegant, focused and balanced, with funky, schisty, mineral and waxy aromas of smoked meats, gooseberries, lychees and melon overlying spicy nuances of apple, cloves, cinnamon and tight-grained oak. Given the extent
of its smoky, meaty and nutty complexity, it’s remarkably fruit-driven and focused, with intense apple, melon and gooseberry flavour tightly woven around a fine, chalky undercarriage, culminating in a lingering briney, savoury finish of tangy fruit and persistent minerality.
... This really is an exceptionally complex but beautifully balanced wine, barrel fermentation used with great skill to produce layers of flavour without compromising the varietal fruit characters; exemplary balance and mouthfeel. Throws down the gauntlet to White Bordeaux.
Ever so stylish, this much-loved sauvignon blanc-semillon blend from Cape Mentelle continues to drop jaws with its fragrant and pretty nose of guava, peach, green herb and beautifully knit oak, while in the mouth it’s broad not at all heavy, and punctuated by mouth-watering acidity and serious length of flavour.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
