The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
An individual expression of the stunning fruit hand picked from the mature, low yielding vines of our original Wallcliffe Vineyard. This wine captures the unique synergy of site, vintage and varieties to create a layered and complex wine with defined varietal characters and exceptional vibrancy.
The Wallcliffe Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a tiny production from our original Wallcliffe Vineyard established in 1970 in Margaret River. The wine represents the vagaries of climate, individuality of site, the complementary characters of the two varieties and a restrained yet evocative winemaking approach. This wine will evolve to produce different characters and complexity over time and will benefit from medium term cellaring.
RANKED #2 TOP SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON BLEND
Very focused and classy – an exceptional example of its style. Spicy, floral and coriander – like aromas of grapefruit, melon smoked meats and dried herbs reveal a hint of nettle and fresh nutty vanilla oak. It’s long and complete, with a vibrant, seamless expression of fruit and oak culminating in a mineral finish of refreshing lemony acids and a lingering hint of wet slate.
This is the barrel-fermented version of the Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, released well after the unwooded wine. This is a fine, juicy blend, the barrel ferment inputs well controlled, leaving the fruit flavours from the mature vines full scope to express themselves: ripe citrus almost extending into stone fruit, lychee, guava and gooseberry also in the sinuous finish.
Complex nutty, yeasty, citrus, white stone fruit and savoury herbal aromas. Elegant structure and an ultra-long, lip-smacking finish.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
