Cape Mentelle has a rich history of exceptional quality and consistency with Cabernet Sauvignon from a pioneering producer in Margaret River in the early 1970's to a benchmark producer today. A single vineyard wine with the style evolving over time, the aim always to define a wine displaying classic varietal character and opulence, strong regional identity and with the structure and fruit intensity to improve with extended cellaring.
Excellent colour, a fragrant, savoury medium-bodied wine, the bouquet and palate offering a seamless array of black fruits, earth, licorice and French oak; admirable texture, line and length.
This guardian of Margaret River’s excellent reputation in the world of cabernet is on form in 2005, showing plenty of leaves, roasting herbs and cassis-flavoured fruit. The palate is striking for its purity and balance, neatly defined tannins and long, elegant finish. This is spot on.
This is rich cabernet with meaty, toasty/smoky oak-suffused bouquet and flavour, leading into a savoury palate with assertive, drying tannins...
This is an unashamedly cool Cabernet style from the south of Margaret River. It’s intricately assembled around a scaffold of blackcurrant fruit, veiled in a fine web of tannin, perfectly formed and all-pervading. It’s harmonious, integrated and seamless and demands two decades in the cellarDownload all reviews for this vintage as PDF
