"The wines made here reflect their origins and regionality
and are consistently among the finest from the region.
The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
The vibrant and aromatic blend produces a fresh, distinctive wine that accentuates the unique character of both varieties. Meticulous winemaking preserves the remarkable intensity of fruit flavour and provides the structure, weight and texture that characterise the Cape Mentelle style.
Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full flavoured distinctive white wine. The style accentuates the fresh fruit characters of both varieties with the added complexity and palate weight offered by a small portion of barrel fermentation.
A 58/42% blend, machine harvested at night; most cold-‐fermented in stainless steel, with 7% of the blend fermented in new and used French barriques. There is an array of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours, but it is the electricity of the intense palate that is the defining feature of the wine.
This is the wine that brings home the bacon, as it were, for Cape Mentelle. Quite perfumed with sweet herbs and Disprin, gooseberry, mixed citrus and fresh pineapple. Light and fresh, gentle and not at all abrasive, well measured herbal notes with toned down lime and pineapple flavours. Has a touch of chalkiness, clean acidity and a finish of good length – a bit like a gin and tonic. Rock solid.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
