The cabernet reaches exceptional heights”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
An individual expression of the stunning fruit hand picked from the mature, low yielding vines of our original Wallcliffe Vineyard. This wine captures the unique synergy of site, vintage and varieties to create a layered and complex wine with defined varietal characters and exceptional vibrancy.
The Wallcliffe Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a tiny production from our original Wallcliffe Vineyard established in 1970 in Margaret River. The wine represents the vagaries of climate, individuality of site, the complementary characters of the two varieties and a restrained yet evocative winemaking approach. This wine will evolve to produce different characters and complexity over time and will benefit from medium term cellaring.
Here comes another benchmark Wallcliffe, at once seductively seamless and silky and at
the same time bracingly structured. Fermented in one-third new French oak barrels, it’s a captivating interplay of remarkable complexity, encased in a beautifully polished and seamless shell, spanning coffee beans, capsicum, hazelnuts, preserved lemon, even linden blossom. The palate is the epitome of honed restraint, remarkable poise and lively energy, held firmly in place with deep-set acid grip and a finish that never seems to end.
One of the finest examples of this style from Margaret River. Shows excellent use of oak and some funky yeast to create a wine of texture and complexity that takes the standard model of unoaked SBS into the deluxe category. Has been modified over the years and is now a much more defined version of those earlier models and yet has al the deep fruit intensity to support cellaring.
Beautifully seamless and complex, this lean, elegant and tihgtly focused expression of this oak-fermented style reveals a lightly smoky bouquet of white flowers, gooseberries and lychees backed by hints of waxiness and spice.Download all reviews for this vintage as PDF
